  • Degrassi Reunion! Members of the OG Cast Return to Canada for a Sweetly Nostalgic Get-Together

The Degrassi Junior High gang had a class reunion!

On Sunday, Oct. 6, Canadian actor and director Stefan Brogren, 52, shared a group photo on Threads and Instagram of himself with fellow original Degrassi alumni Kristen Bourne, Amanda Stepto, Stacie Mistysyn and Pat Mastroianni. The cute pic showed the actors gathered around a table at Toronto sports bar The Dog and Bear sharing drinks and fries.

“So Joey, Caitlin, Spike, Tessa Campanelli and Snake walk in to a bar….” Brogren wrote in the post’s caption, referencing everyone’s characters, along with #degrassi.

On Instagram, Brogren added the bar’s handle along with #WheresYick?, a reference to Siluck Saysanasy’s Degrassi Junior High character Yick Yu.

Brogren, Bourne, Stepto, Mistysyn and Mastroianni all starred in the groundbreaking Canadian teen drama, which aired on CBC in Canada and PBS in the U.S. from to They each went on to reprise their roles in a follow-up series, Degrassi High, which followed their characters into high school, from to Brogren also returned to the role of Archie "Snake" Simpson in Degrassi: The Next Generation — alongside a young Drake —and Degrassi: Next Class.

With speculation swirling about the next iteration of the Degrassi saga set to premiere on HBO Max next year, now is as good a time as any to revisit the slightly murky origins of the franchise that transformed a sleepy east end Toronto street into a global pop-culture phenomena.

    Old school book

Back in the mids at Earl Grey Senior Public School, teacher Linda Schuyler was instructing a very early, non-curriculum-based version of media studies to her students, including film-making on Super 8.

There was a lack of resource books on the subject so she asked the school's librarian Bruce Mackey to order a selection of titles that might aid in
