MARIA DA ASCENÇÃO RESENDES DE SOUSA It is with gratefulness and immense sorrow we announce Maria de Sousa’s battle with ALS has ended. Maria passed away with her family by her side at the Grace Hospital on Friday, May 15th, 2020 at the age of 71. Maria is survived by her loving husband of almost 47 years, José; son Sergio (Marcy); grandson Brian; sisters Maria do Conceição and Aldina (José); brothers Antonio (Eduarda), Manuel (Ines) and Joao (Ana); brother-in-law José Figueiredo and beloved extended family who are mourning this painful loss. Maria was predeceased by her parents Manuel and Vergina Sousa; her brother José Curvelo (Maria do Nascimento); sister Maria do Espírito Santo and brother-in-law Antonio Morais. Maria was born in Santa Maria, Açores, Portugal and immigrated to Canada with José and infant son, Sergio in November 1974. Mariana Fernandes de Sousa (born 19 February 2001), known professionally as Mari Fernandez, is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, businesswoman and instrumentalist. She became known for the songs "Não, Não Vou",[1] which started her career, and for the song "Parada Louca",[2] released in partnership with singer Marcynho Sensação.[3][4]
Born in Alto Santo, Fernandez began singing at the age of seven, at school and in the churches she attended, giving the first signs of her interest in a musical career. At ten, she got her first guitar, and started learning to play with the help of her stepfather, and at fifteen, she wrote her first song.[5]
Fernandez began her career in 2021, when she released her album "Piseiro Sofrência", among which the song "Não, Não Vou" stood out, which reached number one on Spotify Brasil.
