It’s been about a week since I’ve been back in Mumbai and everyday when I read the newspapers I come across an interview or article about a man named ACP (assistant commissioner of police) Vasant Dhoble, Mumbai Police Branch. His interviews and articles strike me, because for a minute I feel I’m holding a paper that was published in 1975 but unfortunately, I can see the effects of his speech during the night time in and around the city.

Mr. Dhoble has been raiding night clubs, restaurants, small eateries, private parties, or dance bars for months and has been in the news ever since. Most or almost ALL of the people who live in Mumbai I’ve spoken to are against his acts of supposedly “killing their social life.” According to the laws the last food order at restaurants is at 11:00pm and clubs or bars must be closed by 1:30am. These laws have not been set by Dhoble, he’s simply following what other police officers have bribed for and allowed to run past their closing time.
